{"id":1670,"date":"2013-04-03T13:30:58","date_gmt":"2013-04-03T12:30:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.egeve.com\/up\/wordpress\/2013\/04\/03\/jim-carrey-is-back-in-the-incredible-burt-wonderstone\/"},"modified":"2022-10-29T16:38:59","modified_gmt":"2022-10-29T15:38:59","slug":"jim-carrey-is-back-in-the-incredible-burt-wonderstone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.egeve.com\/en\/jim-carrey-is-back-in-the-incredible-burt-wonderstone\/","title":{"rendered":"Jim Carrey is back in \u2018The Incredible Burt Wonderstone\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>The screenwriting duo behind raunchy workplace comedy \u2018Horrible Bosses\u2019 have tapped the competitive world of Las Vegas magicians to bring the absurd antics of \u2018The Incredible Burt Wonderstone\u2019 to the screen. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div>\n<p><strong>\u2018Burt Wonderstone\u2019, out in the UAE on Thursday, is the creation of screenwriters John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, who made their writing debut with 2011\u2019s \u2018Horrible Bosses\u2019.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div>\n<p><strong>The duo found inspiration in the cut-throat industry of Las Vegas magicians for their latest film, which stars Steve Carell and Jim Carrey.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div>\n<p><strong>\u201cIt\u2019s a fascinating world, it\u2019s one that you don\u2019t really have to heighten or exaggerate all that much to get to comedy because it\u2019s already a crazy world of Vegas magicians,\u201d Goldstein said. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><\/p><wp-block data-block=\"core\/more\"><\/wp-block>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>The rivalry among Burt Wonderstone (Carell), Anton Marvelton (Steve Buscemi) and Steve Gray (Carrey) was drawn from the real world of Las Vegas illusionists, after Daley and Goldstein talked to magicians such as Lance Burton, Penn Jillette and David Copperfield, who makes a cameo in the film.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>\u201cLike rock stars or movie stars, these guys are very competitive with one another, and there\u2019s not a lot of love lost between them,\u201d Goldstein said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Carrey channelled his outrageous comedic roots that rocketed him to fame in films such as 1994\u2019s \u2018Ace Ventura: Pet Detective\u2019 and \u2018The Mask\u2019, bringing an unpredictable edge to street illusionist Gray\u2019s absurd stunts, such as slicing his face open for a trick.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>\u201c[Jim\u2019s] role in this is a throwback to the stuff he did in the \u201990s, where it\u2019s very big and physical, and that is my favourite kind of Jim Carrey character,\u201d Daley said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>From raunchy comedies to animation<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>The road to writing and directing feature films has been a long one for Daley, 27, and Goldstein, 44, who began their careers in television.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Daley, who plays a psychologist in TV crime series \u2018Bones\u2019, found fame as a teenager acting alongside James Franco, Seth Rogen and Jason Segel in Judd Apatow\u2019s coming-of-age sitcom \u2018Freaks and Geeks\u2019 in 1999. But it took him nearly a decade to tap into writing and directing.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>\u201cYou can only be taken so seriously when you\u2019re nine years old, that\u2019s why acting came first &#8230; you can work as a child actor but not as a child director and writer,\u201d Daley said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Goldstein spent 10 years working in television as a writer and producer, meeting Daley on \u2018The Geena Davis Show\u2019 and teaming with the actor to work on features.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>While \u2018Horrible Bosses\u2019 became a box office success, grossing more than $117 million (Dh429.8 million) in US theatres in 2011, alongside raunchy R-rated comedies such as \u2018Bridesmaids\u2019 and \u2018The Hangover Part II\u2019, Goldstein said the pair did not want to be known as \u201cthe hard R guys\u201d, referring to the rating for such films.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>The duo expanded their screenwriting talents into upcoming animated film \u2018Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2\u2019 to \u201ccover as many bases\u201d within the comedy field, and bring humour rooted more in reality.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>\u201cThere\u2019s something of a tendency now to go to a pretty mean-spirited place, where everybody\u2019s kind of nasty to each other.
