{"id":1344,"date":"2013-02-07T20:23:07","date_gmt":"2013-02-07T20:23:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.egeve.com\/up\/wordpress\/2013\/02\/07\/no-more-boring-parts-at-oscars\/"},"modified":"2022-10-29T15:30:04","modified_gmt":"2022-10-29T14:30:04","slug":"no-more-boring-parts-at-oscars","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.egeve.com\/en\/no-more-boring-parts-at-oscars\/","title":{"rendered":"No more boring parts at Oscars"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>The producers of the Academy Awards have good news for those watching the Oscar ceremony at home: They\u2019re trying to cut out the boring parts.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div>\n<p><strong>Oscar producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron say they watched 40 years of past ceremonies to find ways to keep the show moving at a brisk pace. They say they are looking to nip and tuck unnecessary moments that can turn the show into a marathon.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div>\n<p><strong>Zadan and Meron said they identified time-consuming segments that might run only 15 or 30 seconds, but which collectively can bog down the show. In some years, the Oscars have run to a ponderous four hours or more.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><\/p><wp-block data-block=\"core\/more\"><\/wp-block>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div>\n<p><strong>\u201cYou start adding up those 30 seconds, and you have an accumulation of time that you can use for entertainment. So that\u2019s what we\u2019re doing. We\u2019re learning a lot about the things that we don\u2019t need in the show,\u201d Zadan said.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div>\n<p><strong>\u201cThe main goal is to honour the nominees and the winners. And then beside that, there\u2019s a lot of pregnant pauses that you get in the show. &#8230; We\u2019ve scooped out a lot of those pauses and created more time for performance and entertainment.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div>\n<p><strong>Zadan and Meron said they have moments planned that should appeal to all ages and interests, including performances by Adele, Norah Jones and Barbra Streisand and a tribute to the James Bond franchise.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div>\n<p><strong>They also are working closely with Oscar host Seth MacFarlane, creator of \u201cFamily Guy\u201d and last summer\u2019s comedy hit \u201cTed\u201d who is known for edgy, potty-mouthed humour. The producers said they\u2019re not worried that they will need an emergency switch to censor MacFarlane.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div>\n<p><strong>\u201cThere\u2019s no oversized red button\u201d to bleep the broadcast if MacFarlane goes too far, Meron said. \u201cSeth is Seth, and we love him.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div>\n<p><strong>But if the Oscar producers really want to keep the show moving, they might seek advice from Robert De Niro, a supporting-actor nominee for \u201cSilver Linings Playbook.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div>\n<p><strong>Meeting with reporters at a nominees luncheon, seven-time nominee, two-time winner De Niro was asked how big a deal the Oscars are to him now.
